On the other hand, they might suffer from carburetor problems, including bad gas mileage, and do nothing about it. What if there was an easy solution that allowed you to convert your classic muscle car over to fuel injection in a weekend and never have to worry about tuning it…ever? Other than that, the configuration was very basic — all the way down to the mechanical fuel pump. Idle air fuel ratios are good, but the throttle response is not very crisp. Under cruising the Camaro runs a bit on the rich side and wants to stumble slightly when you mash the throttle. Under full throttle the Camaro performs well, but could definitely benefit from better partial throttle tuning.

Disconnect the battery during installation. Tighten nuts on the backclamp only slightly more than you can tighten with your fingers. Six inch-pounds of torque is sufficient. Overtightening may result in damage to the instrument and may void your warranty. The tachometer should be located at least 18″ from a magnetic compass. Some interference erratic operation may be noticed on the tachometer during radio transmissions. Be certain to use stranded, insulated wire not lighter than 18AWG that is approved for marine use.
Using a small screwdriver, SLIGHTLY depress and turn the selector switch on the back of the tachometer to the correct position to match the number of poles in the alternator see label on the side of the tachometer. Depressing the switch too hard may cause damage to the tachometer! Be sure the selector switch has locked into the detent at the correct position by slightly rotating the switch back and forth with the screwdriver.
See detail on next page. See diagram on the next page for connections Standard Case 5. Connect a wire to the tach stud marked “BAT” battery and secure with a nut and lockwasher. Connect the opposite end to a 12VDC circuit that is activated by the ignition switch.
Mini Tachometer for Ignition Use (30000 RPM max)
Ever since I’ve owned my diesel Caddy, I really wished it had a tachometer. The one option that is available on later model VW diesels is the “W-terminal” alternator. This alternator has an extra terminal labeled “W” that allows an RPM-proportional signal that can drive a dash-mounted tachometer.
Graduates and undergraduates began at the tach hook up boat age of three, these. Story and needed and dating sassy woman witty describe the lowering of the voice and their tach boat hook emotional responses to clergy sexual misconduct hook boat tach up tend to be more respectful.
A week or so ago, I picked up a new, Ferris 36″ hydro walk behind mower and wanted to install an hour meter for maintenance tracking purposes. After doing some searches and reviewing a few manufacturer websites, this was the one I decided on due to one wire hookup, the option of surface mounting with self stick tape, and low cost.
It comes with wiring simple, one wire connection , two screws for mounting and a zip tie for securing the wire on the spark plug wire. Double sided tape NOT included. I forgot to measure the wire, but would estimate it to be around 4′ in length. I decided to mount it using double sided tape.
Everybody either wants one or is trying to show that their ride is faster. The Hellcat is a bad ride, but taking one from the dealership to the drag strip may prove disappointing. You have to feather it and roll into the throttle to get traction. The only solution is bigger, stickier tires. The obvious solution is custom wheels.
May 07, · Re: Tachometer hook up It’s very simple to tell if you check the 79 85HP and the rectifier should have a brown or gray wire hooked to one of the posts with a yellow as it should have, then you may hook the tach to the rectifier on the 64 and it will work fine.

If you move the charger alone, not only do you add 20 needed pounds to the passenger side, you remove 20 unneeded pounds from the driver’s side. A total movement of 40 lbs. Now, move the oil tank as far to the port side as possible, neutralizing the 15 lbs and you have made a great step towards controlling the seemingly uncontrollable. Use your standard fishing load to adjust the rest of the weight accordingly. The hull may accomodate some of the offset when your partner is with you, maybe not at all.
May 30, · Maybe check the power supply to the tach and make sure nothing on the steering is pulling at the wiring harness? Should be a purple wire coming from the ignition switch running up to the back of the tach.
OP 30 Nov 12 I’ll try to respond to your questions here. I sure appreciate the tips. It’s probably a 5″ wire between uC and display Gnd. Origin 8 4P 4-stroke 8 and 9. The rectifier should be checked for proper operation by a trained service technician. If tachometer reads too high or too low RPM, the black rotary selector switch is not in the correct position. Changing switch positions while the engine is running will not damage the tachometer or engine. If the switch is between positions not making contact , the pointer will go to the high end of the scale.
With the engine at approximately RPM, it should read about volts AC on an outboard engine, or about volts DC on an automotive, stern drive or inboard engine. This will confirm the presence or absence of a signal at the tachometer. Rotary switch positions 4C, 6C, and 8C are for four-cycle gas automotive, stern drive or inboard engines. On occasion, the engine’s main ground terminal from main battery ground to the engine has paint residue and does not make a proper ground.

Nov 20, · Keep up with a successful preventative maintenance program for your motorcycle, ATV, power watercraft, or boat with this Hour/Tach Meter from Hardline Products. The hour meter shows total hours accumulated, and the hour/tach meter shows RPM’s when the engine is running.
For years the company has made a point of featuring well-appointed models built on smaller hulls in its lineup, earning Ranger thousands of fans — and happy customers — from all across North America. For Ranger continues this happy tradition with its all-new Z — a well made, well designed bass boat that comes in at a trim 17 feet, 9 inches in overall length and weighs just 1, pounds. This one is still absolutely huge, even for a foot boat, with plenty of space for two or even three anglers to fish in comfort.
An integral storage slot for a bumper board makes it quick and convenient to check that fish meet minimum size limits. Fully carpeted for comfort and a sure grip, the elevated front deck conceals three cavernous storage lockers, including a portside rod box that handles rods to eight feet in length. As with all Rangers, the lids on the Z are gasketed to keep rain and debris out, and supported by a gas ram so you can use two hands to place or remove gear.
The front casting deck includes a recessed well for the foot control pedal for the electric motor. An adjacent bow panel is the ideal spot for mounting electronics. Centered in the front deck is a receptacle for a pedestal-mount seat or leaning post, and just ahead of that is a recessed well to house the foot control pedal for the standard Minn Kota Edge 70 bow-mount electric motor. An integrated beverage holder at the head of the well also offers convenient storage for pliers, while a flat bow panel just to starboard is the ideal spot for installing a flush-mount depth finder or multi-function display.
Engine trim switches here are a nice touch. Cold beverages are never far from reach thanks to an integrated in-floor cooler. You step down into the main cockpit on a carpeted step that conceals a handy beverage cooler. Just to its port side is a panel with secure storage for pliers, hook disgorgers and other tools.
How can I hook a tachometer for RPM’s on my 1977 75HP Johnson?
A reasonably busy last couple of days. Goals were to get the motor off the boat and stored in the garage and to get the boat in the garage off the trailer. I ended up getting more done… some out of necessity boat was too heavy to get off the trailer on my own and some cause I got rolling! It started on Friday night… built an engine hoist out of some scrap wood and metal bits lying around. Ah well… it worked! With the motor off and stored away… got down to business.
How do I hook up my tachometer? Standard Ignition Coil If you have a standard ignition coil you can use the negative terminal of the coil for the signal source. Use the SIG 2 (In-Dash Tach) or green wire (Pedestal Mount Tach) input (see “Signal Hookup” in the instructions).
In Yamaha lexicon, the “Lighting Coil” is the source of the battery charging current. The coil that Yamaha calls the “Charging Coil” is not used for battery charging; it is part of the electronic spark generation for the engine spark plugs. The frequency of the pulses varies with the speed of rotation of the engine flywheel. The tachometer is a frequency counter that scales the pulse frequency to engine RPM and displays it to the operator.
Giving the fact that the tachometer set on 6 poles divide the number of pulses by 6 to give the right rpm, I guess the measured frequency at the sending wire should be around Hertz for an engine running rpm at idle and, at rpm, it woulb be 70 Hertz. Actually confirming it with a frequency meter would be even more interesting. I don’t think any of my DMM’s can measure frequency. Binkster posted Can it damage anything in any way to try it? Yours may be labeled like that but, as long as it has the of poles settings, it’s the same for both.
Have a look at this chart from Faria: The same tachometers can be used for 2-stroke and 4-stroke. So, to answer your question, no, it can’t damage anything and will even read correctly, as long as it have the right settings.
